Drive it Day

Sunday 26th April 2026

This page is still under development so look out for updates.

The FBHVC created Drive-It Day to celebrate the occasion in 1900 when 65 vehicles drove from London to Edinburgh and back to celebrate the repeal of the Red Flag Act and prove the viability of the motor car. It is always held on the Sunday closest to this 23rd April anniversary. It now raises much money for charity adding a wider social contribution to our National Awareness Day. Your £12.50 per car entry fee for this event will be used to cover the cost of a Childline Rally Plate.

With Midlands Centre covering such a large area, organising just one drive it day event has inevitably meant some members having to travel a large distance just to get to the start. In some cases, members have had a round trip in excess of 200 miles by the time that they get back home. So going forward, the committee has decided that it will be better for our local groups to each organise their own event with support from the committee and booking through this website.

Two regional drives are being organised, detailed below. Entry to either of them is with the booking form below. On the form you can decide which of the two drives you wish to take part in and undertake to pay £12.50 by BACS to cover the cost of the Childline rally plate. For members in the Northeast of our region, there is a third option of joining a Rainbow’s event.

Warwickshire/Worcester Group:
Starting close to the historic town of Stratford upon Avon in Warwickshire the Drive it Day route will predominately be on minor roads to the eventual finish to the east of Worcester. The route will be almost 50 miles including two pretty market towns, one in each county, but mostly along their scenic country lanes with small bits of A road to break things up. Participants will meet from 9.30 at Cobbs Farm Cafe, King’s Lane, Snitterfield, CV37 0QA where breakfast baps, tea, coffee etc will also be available before we start. Here we will issue the rally plates and roadbooks ready for the start at 10.15 for the run finishing at Worcester pub at around 1pm. Navigators are optional but recommended to make it easier to get round the route. You don’t have to take the right route and its possible to make it much shorter but the sneaky organisers may include a checkpoint to shame those who choose not to do the full route.

Staffordshire:
Richard Statham is organising this drive covering Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. We have planned a scenic tour of the beautiful Southern Peak District. Join us for a breakfast meet at Ashbourne before heading North, mainly off the beaten track to enjoy the spectacular scenery and local hospitality, away from the ‘Fast Lane’ for a more sedate experience. There is a planned late morning break at a hotel-with-a-view for refreshments before the second half of the tour heads back South to finish at a lovely traditional pub near Carsington Water for lunch. The total mileage is expected to be less than 50miles.

Leicestershire/East Midlands:
Simon Leese is arranging for us to piggy-back the Rainbows Hospice event and he will be liaising with Helen Acton to include any of her members who would also like to join. For more information or register interest please email leeseontheloose@gmail.com
