Club members John and Janine Brooks, along with a small group of villagers are organising a classic and vintage vehicle show on The Green in the village of Watford (near Watford Gap) in Northamptonshire. A warm welcome is extended to all Austin Healey Club members who would like to bring their cars along to the show.
The show is being organised to raise funds for the village church of St. Peter and St. Paul which dates back to the mid 13th Century, has a fascinating history and is Grade 1 listed. The village and church also have links with Thomas Roger, one of the Pilgrim Fathers who with his wife, also from the village, sailed to America on the Mayflower in 1620.
Recently the church has suffered substantial damage following the attempted theft of lead from the roof and a break in. Villagers have made a successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund to help pay for all the necessary repairs to the church and provide visitor amenities and information displays about its history. The car show is being organised as a village event to raise additional funds to support this work.
In addition to the displays of vehicles there will be a bar, various craft and food stalls, a display of information about the church and village, a fun dog show and the church (a short walk from the green) will be open. It is hoped local land owner the Honourable Andrew Eden will be available to open the show and he will also be asked to select the car he would most like to take home, for which a prize will be awarded.
The event will be open to the public from 10.00am until 4.00pm with exhibits arriving from 8.30am.
All exhibits need to be booked in advance, for more information and a copy of the booking form and show entry conditions please send an email to : email@example.com
